Hello there! I am Brenda Bernhardt, 5th and 6th grade Social Studies teacher.  Born in Minot, ND. Raised on a farm northwest of Minot where I enjoyed horses and helping my parents run a small cattle/grain farm.  I graduated from Tolley (Tigers) High School and continued my education at MSU (Beavers) Minot. I married Tony Bernhardt from Linton (Lions), ND.  We raised two children in Mohall (Yellowjackets) and Rugby (Panthers), ND. Mariya Tate and Tanner Markus both graduated from Rugby High School and attended NDSCS (Wildcats), Wahpeton, ND.  Tony is the CEO of Enerbase in Minot.

New to the Velva school system, but not new to education.  I have taught 27 years in 3 different school systems. Mohall, Willow City, and Rugby public schools.  Along with teaching I also coached basketball, volleyball, track, drama, and cheerleading. I have been active in my church and many community activities.  I enjoy many activities from quiet reading to noisy sporting activities. I enjoy being outside taking in nature’s beauty while entertaining myself with yardwork, golf, lake activities, even winter activities.  Traveling and turning junk into treasures have become my passion.

My Philosophy in education is to create a positive, learning environment where the student can exercise their knowledge while being creative and engaged.   In the 21st Century, it is important to provide a safe place for students to do this not only for success but failure. I hope to instill good character along with engaging curriculum, so students can become positive members of society.

“Learn something new everyday,  and share it with the World.”
